bookrageous, baby

What We’re Reading This Week!

Rebecca says: After we read Margaret Atwood’s In Other Worlds for the Bookrageous book club earlier this year, we decided to pick She because Atwood mentions it as one of her favorite books, and one that heavily influenced her own work. I don’t know about you, but that’s all I needed to hear. I’ve just started this one and can’t wait to talk about it with Josh and Jenn soon.

This past week, I did a whole lot of traveling and needed fun reading material. Josh was right about Simon Rich’s The Last Girlfriend On Earth—it’s witty, silly, smart, and a total blast. These are stories about dating, mating, and breaking up, and they are all kinds of creative. One is narrated by a condom that gets carried around in a guy’s wallet for WAY longer than you’re supposed to carry a condom around. Another is about a Scared Straight-style camp aiming to reform teenagers who are at risk for long-term relationships. There are goats and petticoats and Dog Missed Connections, and you’ll down the whole slim volume in one gulp.

In my continuing mission to read more romance and erotica (and, let’s be real, really just more erotica because the romance novels don’t have enough sexytimes), I picked up Tiffany Reisz’s The Siren. About an erotica writer who is trying to break into the mainstream with her dirty little books and gets assigned the uptightest of the uptight editors at her new publisher, this one is steamy and more than a little on the BDSM side. I whipped through it (see what I did there?), and I’m feeling this whole Read More Naughty Books thing is a very good goal indeed.
