jennirl:

thank you thank you thank you to Lauren Beukes, David Peace, E. Lockhart, Emma Straub, Tiphanie Yanique, and A.S. King for being delightful and talented and letting us all take selfies with them for like a solid hour at the Bookrageous party. my face hurts from smiling so hard (but WORTH IT). and it was lovely to meet so many formerly-internet-only friends!

Show us those photos, partygoers! Tag ‘em bookrageous or bookbash2014 and we shall reblog. Thanks for coming to our shindig (and thanks to the authors, Book Riot, Quirk Books, Library Journal, and Housing Works for helping make it happen).

@leahlibrarian: What books do you love despite the fact that the author is an asshat? Have you ever hate-read a book? What one?

Jenn: Ender’s Game, Orson Scott Card

Rebecca: The Corrections, Jonathan Franzen; hate-read all of the Twilight books, Nicholas Sparks, 50 Shades of Grey

Josh: comics of Frank Miller; hate-read 50 Shades of Grey

If you missed the Bookrageous party (or just didn’t have a notebook handy), fear not! Here’s the list of books recommended by our wonderful featured authors.

It was one of those great cases where you think that you know what the author’s voice is going to sound like when they read, and then it actually does, and so the reading experience and the listening experience line up and the person turns out to be as amazing in real life as they were in your head … It was pretty magical. I might have to just quit going to book events now because nothing is going to be better than that.

Living (24): Costume

harkaway:

Muse: Halloo, halloo, how about a little evening creative w- Holy Mother of Spielberg!
Me: I’m going to a party.
Muse: Like that?
Me: It’s a costume party.
Muse: And you’re going like that?
Me: This is my costume.
Muse: What will you do after all the other guests leave?
Me: You don’t like it.
Muse: I find it alarming, certainly.
Me: I think it kinda rocks. It’s unexpected and just a little bit weirdly sexy.
Muse: Never say that word again while you are dressed as… what are you dressed as?
Me: I am the MIGHTY WOTAN.
Muse: Uh huh.
Me: And this is my raven, Munin.
Muse: Right. And…
Me: Eyepatch, check.
Muse: Yes, clearly.
Me: Leathern tunic and trews, check.
Muse: Oh, yes. Those.
Me: And a warrior’s enormous beard!
Muse: About that…
Me: I had to repurpose part of my Santa outfit.
Muse: You look like Bondage George R R Martin.

DYING.

In early June, the publishing industry takes Manhattan for Book Expo America. We’re taking the opportunity to celebrate the millions of amazing readers and writers who call the Tumblr community home.
Join us at Housing Works Bookstore Cafe for free drinks, fun swag, mixing, mingling, and readings by Edan Lepucki, Alexander Chee, and Baratunde Thurston.

If you do anything the first week of June, it should be this. (And the Bookrageous party, of course.)
